Duane Arthur, hailing from Johannesburg, South Africa, has dedicated his life to the art of music and sound. With over 25 years of experience, his journey began under the influence of his musically renowned father. By nine, Duane was already an accomplished singer and performer, both in studio sessions and on stage, while also learning the alto saxophone. At fourteen, he taught himself guitar, discovering his passion for songwriting.
At fifteen, he formed his first band, Sublemon, which gained significant recognition. They became the first South African band aired on MTV and achieved a #1 hit single on 5fm’s modern rock chart for four weeks.
After Sublemon disbanded in 1998, Duane pursued a solo career and performed with various groups, including Ethel My Love, Rise, Newtown, Abstrakt, and OTN. His versatility as a songwriter and producer led him to collaborate with artists like Ringo Madlingozi, Ziyon (Liquideep), and MXO, achieving chart success on Metro FM.
As a composer, Duane has created music for film, TV, radio, and live events, contributing to projects like Miss SA, Mr. Universe, Innocent Times, High Rollers, The Good Life, the FIFA 2010 World Cup, and National Geographic's "Hits". His work includes TV and radio commercials for top brands such as Cell C, The Pro Shop, Brand SA, and Total. His work on "Roer Jou Voete" earned him a SAFTA nomination for Best Original Music in a TV Drama.
Beyond composing, Duane has extensive experience in final mix and sound design for film, TV, radio, web, and corporate events. He has worked as both a freelancer and a contract employee, managing multiple recording studios, artists, and high-profile global projects. His portfolio includes collaborations with National Geographic, Palmolive, Samsung, Colgate, MTN, Mazda, LG, Pantene, Outsurance, Clientele, Pampers, Peroni, Audi, VW, Standard Bank, and The Loerie Awards, among others. Duane brings a strong work ethic, effective communication, teamwork, precise interpretation of briefs, and urgency in meeting deadlines to every project.
His creative pursuits extend to film location sound, writing, and illustration. Committed to honesty and passion, Duane continues to refine his craft, believing in the inseparable connection between art and life.
